What do Pink, Doctor Evil, Dexter, Beetlejuice, and Stewie Griffin from Family Guy all have in common? Aside from being quirky iconic symbols of the funkier sides of American culture, they are also all tattooed on Web’s butt. What? Who’s Web?
Web is the lead vocalist for Web Three, a band that combines hip-hop, rock, and freak show shenanigans in their over-the-top music videos and live shows. If you’ve ever been to one of their concerts, then you’ve probably seen Web’s famous butt, which has been nicknamed “Mount Buttmore” by his band mates. Perhaps the only thing more intriguing than Web’s tattoos is the man himself, an artist and a kind soul with a strange sense of humor and a keen sense of his own twisted self identity. When asked about the Stewie tattoo he replied, “Some people get bumper stickers. I get tattoos.” And in response to a question about the Dexter piece, he says, “I like serial killers, and I like the fact that they made a show about one… and it’s in Miami… and it’s like… OK! Now I can say I’ve got a killer ass.” Both the Dexter piece and the Beetlejuice piece were done by Crystal Hays http://www.MySpace.com/CrystalLHays), from Panama City Beach, during a recent trip that the band took up to Jacksonville for a tattoo convention. It was during this trip that Ratt, another member of the band, got a tattoo of a Michael Jackson, from the album cover for “Thriller,” on his arm. The only thing better than looking at Web’s tattoos is listening to his endearing explanations of them, like when he lifts up his shirt and says, “Yeah, I’ve got a bird chest,” and reveals a chest that is quite literally “a bird chest,” with a dove on his left chest and a vulture on his right chest, laid out in a way that mimics the old “angel on one shoulder, devil on the other” kind of archetype, but with Web’s own personal flair added to it.
Aside from his bird chest, and “Mount Buttmore,” Web has several other tattoos in other places and comments that about 40% of his body is inked up. Of particular note is the giant microphone that stretches across his right side, which was done by Scott White http://www.VisualVortex.com), and the milk carton on his left side, complete with a picture of his dad as a sarcastic testament to how he is both missing and missing out on his son’s life.
Although it doesn’t have a national park built around it, Web’s butt is truly the Mount Rushmore of counter culture and does exactly what he meant for it to do. “I just kinda try to bring in all the different influences I have, different movies… different music. I want my influence to show on the outside.”
